He received his undergraduate degree sum cum laude from the University of Arizona in 1986, where he also received his medical degree. After finishing his internship and residency in internal medicine at Faulkner Hospital, he went on to finish his gastroenterology at Tufts University Medical Center, Faulkner Hospital, Shattuck Hospital, and St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
