Dr. Franz Omar Smith is a highly skilled and fellowship-trained surgeon with certifications in advanced complex surgical oncology and general surgery. Specializing in cutaneous oncology, sarcoma, and breast cancer, Dr. Smith is dedicated to providing comprehensive cancer care to patients at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, Clara Maass Medical Center, and Jersey City Medical Center. He is committed to a multidisciplinary approach, tailoring individualized treatment plans for each patient.
During his residency, Dr. Smith completed a three-year clinical research fellowship in Tumor Immunotherapy and Surgical Oncology at the National Cancer Institute, NIH. His research focused on high-dose Interleukin-2, tumor vaccines, and cell-based therapies for metastatic melanoma. Following residency, he undertook a two-year surgical oncology fellowship at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center/University of South Florida, specializing in complex surgical oncology.
Dr. Smith has contributed significantly to his field, publishing numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and presenting at national meetings. As the Chief Academic Officer at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, he plays a crucial role in advancing medical education. Recognized by the American Cancer Society for outstanding outcomes, quality dedication, and service excellence, Dr. Smith is a member of prestigious organizations such as the American College of Surgeons, Society of Surgical Oncology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, and more.
