Dr. Ackland is an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist. He concentrates on arthroscopic reconstruction of the shoulder and knee. He has a particular interest in revision surgery of the shoulder after failed surgery. These procedures are difficult, especially if there have been multiple surgeries on the shoulder. Dr. Ackland attended medical school and orthopedic residency training in Ottawa, Canada, and the University of Toronto. He received his fellowship in the prestigious Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons and is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons. His research awards include the Keon award for first place in orthopedic research as well as academic resident award for best research paper. His work has been published in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Journal of Pediatric Orthopedics, and multiple articles. He belongs to several orthopedic societies including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He has served as a clinical instructor for Yale University. Dr. Ackland is certified as an expert examiner for the Department of Industrial Accidents.
Dr. Ackland is also the founder of the Ackland Sports Medicine foundation, a charitable organization that raises and contributes funds to young athletes in need of financial assistance to play sports. He strongly believes that sports for young boys and girls can teach excellent values and work ethics.
Dr. Ackland has served as orthopedic consultant to the senior pro tennis tour. His patients include professional hockey players in the NHL, Olympic athletes, professional golfers, and international figures.
