Dr. R. Gary Lane is a board certified ophthalmologist, specializing in diseases and surgery of the retina in private practice in San Antonio, Texas. Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Dr. Lane completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Miami. He attended medical school at the University of Florida College of Medicine. He is a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society that recognizes the top doctors in each class.
Dr. Lane completed his internship at David Grant Medical Center in California. He then served as a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force, and was stationed in Korea and North Carolina. He completed his Ophthalmology residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center here in San Antonio, and did a two year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia.
Dr. Lane served in the United States Air Force at Wilford Hall Medical Center as the Director of the Retina Service and also as Residency Program Director. He continues to serve as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force Reserves. He is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Health Science Center.
Dr. Lane speaks Spanish and is very active in teaching Ophthalmology in Central and South America.
