Born in Bombay, India, and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Raj I. Narayani embodies a blend of global heritage and southern charm. His academic journey led him to Vanderbilt University, where he excelled in obtaining undergraduate degrees in both chemistry and computer science, followed by a prestigious medical doctorate degree from the same institution.
Dr. Narayani’s commitment to service is exemplified by his distinguished career in the U.S. Air Force, where he completed his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium. His military service, marked by an overseas deployment during Operation Enduring Freedom and recognition with a Meritorious Service Medal in 2005, underscores his dedication to both his country and the field of medicine.
In 2005, Dr. Narayani transitioned from military service to civilian practice by joining Gastrointestinal Associates, where he has since been an invaluable asset. His expertise spans general gastroenterology, with a particular focus on video capsule endoscopy of the small bowel and advanced endoscopic treatment of Barrett’s esophagus. His contributions to clinical research in these areas have significantly advanced the understanding and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases.
Dr. Narayani’s impact extends beyond patient care into technological advancements within medical practice. He led the selection and implementation of the computerized health record system at GIA, enhancing the efficiency and quality of patient care. His insights on electronic medical record integration have been shared at national meetings, further establishing him as a leader in the integration of technology and healthcare.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Narayani enjoys a full and active lifestyle with his wife, Parul, and their two children, Nikita and Kaden. His personal interests include tennis, basketball, snow skiing, and computer programming. Dr. Narayani also brings his competitive spirit and teamwork skills to the field as an organizer and player for GIA’s recreational softball team, demonstrating his commitment to community and camaraderie.
