Dr. Richard Hamilton has been studying ophthalmology for more than 25 years. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard College in Cambridge, Mass. with a degree in chemistry, and also received his medical degree from Harvard. Dr. Hamilton completed an internship at University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, Colo., before his ophthalmology residency at the Doheny Eye Institute in Los Angeles, CA. He also completed a vitreoretinal surgical fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wis.
Dr. Hamilton is a charter member of the International Masters of Retina (IMOR), and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Florida Society of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retinal Specialists, American Medical Association, Florida Medical Association and Polk County Medical Association.
Dr. Hamilton has conducted over 100 teaching and speaking engagements to local, regional, national, and international groups. He has also published five abstracts with Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), two book chapters and served as a sub-investigator in dozens of clinical trials.
Dr. Hamilton resides in Lakeland, Florida. He supports local high school athletics, the Polk Museum of Art and VISTE and WeCare charitable organizations. In his spare time, he enjoys spectator sports, movies, book collecting, traveling and dining out.
