Dr. Richard Lee Moskowitz has been engaged in the practice of Colon and Rectal Surgery in Morris County for 30 years. Originally in practice with Dr. Raymond Crystal until Dr. Crystal’s retirement in 2001, Dr. Moskowitz was engaged in the practice of General and Colon and Rectal Surgery at Roosevelt and St. Luke’s Hospitals in New York City prior to establishing himself in New Jersey.
Dr. Moskowitz graduated from the Milton S. Hershey School of Medicine of the Pennsylvania State University in 1978 and completed a General Surgical Residency at the North Shore Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Thereafter, a fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery was obtained from the Greater Baltimore Medical Center under the direction of Dr. John Rosin from the Mayo Clinic. An additional year of postgraduate research and clinical training was accomplished in London at St. Marks Hospital – the “cradle of colon and rectal surgery”. There, Dr. Moskowitz worked with surgical pioneers of Inflammatory Bowel Disease who created the “pouch” option for Restorative Proctocolectomy in patients with Ulcerative Colitis. Specifically, his mentors included Peter Hawley for rectal oncological resections and Professor John Nicholls. Dr. Moskowitz collaborated with Professor Nicholls in writing the seminal papers describing the staging of “Pouchitis”.
Board certification and the appropriate recertifications are in General Surgery and Colon and Rectal Surgery. Memberships include, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Fellow of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, and the St. Mark’s Society.
