I am a general orthopedic surgeon who has been in the White Mountains for 20 years. I have had the great fortune to take care of the residents, citizens, and friends of the White Mountains over this period of time. I have had the opportunity to help start a surgical center, Sunrise Ambulatory Surgery Center, and also I have started Arizona Mountain Imaging, The Open MRI Project. I am the President of the Arizona Mountain Independent Physician Organization and currently board certified and doing all forms of general orthopedic surgery.
As for my education, I have Bachelors of Science in Nutrition from the University of California at Berkeley and a Phi Beta Kappa Award from that University. My medical schooling was completed at the University of California, Irvine Medical College in Irvine, California, where the Omega Alpha honor society award. My orthopedic residency was at UC Irvine Medical Center, 1984 to 1989, and I also did a Sports Medicine Fellowship at Kentucky Sports Medicine, Lexington, Kentucky, 1989 through 1990. I have practiced with Kaiser Permanente Hospital System in the San Francisco Bay Area for seven years before bringing my family to the White Mountain Areas and joining the orthopedic practice of John Connelly.
Dr. Connelly and I formed Arizona Mountain Orthopedics in 1998, and I am proud to say the organization has grown to the point it is a full service musculoskeletal, surgical, and nonsurgical practice.
On a personal level, I enjoy snow skiing at Sunrise and other resorts. I enjoy hiking, mountain biking, and fishing. In the fall, I enjoy duck hunting. I love being in and out of doors with my two sons, Jake and Dillon Washburn and my wife, Kimberly Washburn. Kimberly and I are dedicated to our yoga practice and have started yoga caliente locally for hot yoga enthusiasts in the Mountain.
In summary, I am very dedicated to the White Mountain Area in the care of all musculoskeletal conditions treated both operatively and non-operatively as well as the use of alternative healing and motion and exercise, especially yoga, cycling, and hiking.
